The driver told police he was 'upset and confused' and returned to his vehicle before the situation escalated.

Thursday, Feb. 16

8:05 p.m. – A driver involved in a crash at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and W Newton Street exited his vehicle with a black aluminum baseball bat in hand, according to police. That’s when the driver of the other vehicle called 911.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle was taking a left from Columbus onto W Newton when the driver with the baseball bat was coming through the intersection. Their vehicles collided, police said, and then the driver with the baseball bat’s vehicle struck a parked car.

The bat-carrying driver told police he did not raise or threaten the other driver with the bat, before returning it to his car. He admitted to carrying it out because he said he was “upset and confused” after the accident.
