What's Open, Closed on Patriots' Day in the South End

Find out what you can and can't do on Marathon Monday.

Patriots' Day (otherwise known at Marathon Monday) commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the start of the Revolutionary War. The holiday is observed this year on Monday, April 15. It's a state holiday, but not a federal holiday. Here's a handy list of what's open - and closed - during the holiday: Retail stores: Open at owner’s discretion. Liquor stores: Open. Supermarkets: Open. Convenience stores: Open. Taverns, bars: Open. Banks: Open at bank’s discretion; most open. Stock market: Open. Municipal and state offices: Closed. Federal offices: Open. Libraries: Closed. Schools: Closed. Mail: Post offices open; regular delivery schedule. Parking meters: Will not be in effect, but all other traffic rules apply. Trash collection: …

A multitude of runners who registered for the 2012 Boston Marathon listed their zip code as 02118. They could be your friends, neighbors or colleagues, but they are all South Enders and all set to traverse arguably the world’s most famous 26.2 miles on Monday. Take a look at the list below and find out which of your neighbors you should congratulate for taking on such a monumental task. And, as always, please let us know if we’ve left someone off the list. Libraries and schools are closed, but you can still expect mail delivery.

From the Boston Globe:  Retail stores: Open at owner’s discretion. Liquor stores: Open. Supermarkets: Open. Convenience stores: Open. Taverns, bars: Open. Banks: Open at bank’s discretion; most open. Stock market: Open. Municipal and state offices: Closed. Federal offices: Open. Libraries: Closed. Schools: Closed. Mail: Post offices open; regular delivery schedule.
