Will the South End see six inches of snow this weekend, or will we see more like three inches with rain mixed in? Saturday's storm is proving to be a tricky one for area forecasters to get a hold on. Although it's not supposed to dump anywhere near the levels of precipitation Nemo did two weeks ago, it could drop significant rain or snow depending on where and when temperatures cross the freezing point. At the moment, Boston lies right on the projected rain/snow line, meaning we could get less than an inch of snow or several inches. The National Weather Service’s winter storm alert issued earlier today has been replaced with a “Blizzard Watch,” in effect starting Friday morning. “A potential historic winter storm and blizzard is expected to drop one to two feet of snow across much of the region Friday into Saturday,” the National Weather Service alert states. Temperatures in Boston will go from extremely cold to extremely colder this week, and the city of Boston is urging residents to take care of themselves and look out for others during single-digit temperatures. The coldest air of the winter to date - by far - is moving in to Boston on Wednesday. Windchills are expected to be close to zero on Wednesday morning and possibly below zero on Thursday morning, which will be the coldest day since last February. The National Weather Service said that Wednesday morning's low temperature would be about 10 degree and Thursday morning's low temperature will be about 7 degrees with a wind chill of -2 degrees. A second storm of the week is headed toward New England and will dump more snow onto the area on Saturday. 7News meteorologists are predicting Boston will get between 2 to 4 inches of snow in the storm that is expected to start on Saturday afternoon and spread into the early hours of Sunday. Sunday morning will start out dry, but light snow will start to arrive around noon then continue into Saturday night. On Sunday, say hello to winter.
