Two Democrats and three Republicans submitted the needed 10,000 names.
Two Democrats and three Republicans submitted the required number of signatures to run in the special election for U.S. Senate, according to the Boston Globe. U.S. Reps. Markey led the way with nearly 34,000 signatures, while Lynch had just over 25,000. On the Republican side, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan filed nearly 19,000 signatures, followed by former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset at almost 17,000 and state Rep. According to the latest poll by UMass Lowell, Brown had a one point lead heading into election day, but the lead was within the poll's margin of error.
Just a day before election day, a new poll released shows that Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown are virtually tied in the US Senate race among likely voters in Massachusetts. Brown is ahead of Warren by 1 percentage point, 49-48, the poll showed. The one-point advantage is within the poll's 4.1 margin of error. The latest poll was conducted by UMass Lowell's Center for Public Opinion and the Boston Herald. Nearly one thousand Massachusetts voters were surveyed between Wednesday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 3. The poll found that Brown is viewed favorably by 54 percent of the 956 voters surveyed, with 39 percent holding a negative opinion of him, according to the Herald. Warren was viewed favorably by 50 percent of voters, with 42 percent …

Sen. Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren faced off in Lowell for round two of their debates.
With polls showing a neck-and-neck race for Massachusetts' U.S. Senate seat, Republican Sen. Scott Brown and Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren came with claws sharpened to their second debate Monday night at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Even with its scattered punches and zings, Monday's debate may not be a game changer. It was generally predictable and lacking much about specific national issues, and Gregory spent most of the time asking about character attacks. Gregory started the debate with the glaring question about Warren's heritage. Warren claims to have Native American ancestry, but prove of that ancestry has not been presented. This has created a firestorm for the professor. "From the day I was born until my other died, she …

The two candidates for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts faced off in their first live debate on Thursday night.
Stark differences came out early and often between U.S. Senate candidates Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown in their first debate, with disagreements on everything from tax policy, to job creation to women's rights. Over and over during the Thursday debate, Warren chose to bring up Sen. Brown's voting record, and Brown chose to point out that Warren's plan would raise taxes on everyone and stifle job creation. "He has said he will defend the top 2 percent and the top 3 percent...and will hold the other 98 percent of families hostage," Warren said, referencing Brown's position against extending the Bush-era tax cuts unless it also contained cuts for the country's top earners. Brown countered by noting that Warren's policies would raise …

Tom Conroy, visited the South End this weekend during his walk across Massachusetts.
Tom Conroy, currently the state representative for Lincoln, Sudbury, and Wayland, is running for the U.S. Senate in 2012. But, instead of running for the position, Conroy is walking. In order to get the word out and meet with voters, Conroy ventured out on a town-to-town walk around Massachusetts that totaled over 600 miles. His journey began two months ago in Wayland and came to a close on Sunday on the Boston Common. Conroy had the opportunity to pass through the South End on Friday where he chatted with some residents at The Buttery and Flour Bakery. During the stops, he fielded questions from residents and asked for their thoughts and concerns in return. Conroy is hoping to unseat current U.S. Senator Scott Brown. He will be joined in…

U. S. Senate candidate Tom Conroy will be in various locations around the South End today and tomorrow as part of a unique campaign that has taken him over 600 miles – all on foot. Conroy set out from his Wayland, MA home on July 2 and plans to conclude his epic stroll this weekend on the Boston Common. An itinerary sketched out ahead of time placed Conroy all over the state, from Gloucester to Cape Cod to North Adams to Springfield, where he helped with ongoing tornado clean up. A Google map on his campaign website tracked Conroy’s process across the state and back and listed his scheduled stops at various cafes, restaurants and community centers. Residents were encouraged to come and share their thoughts. This walk is “a wonderful …
