See how big a drop in crime the South End experienced in 2013 over the same period in 2012.
Major crimes were down in the South End during the first four months of 2013 as compared to 2012, according to recently released Boston Police figures. In the D-4 Police district, which covers the South End, Fenway/Kenmore, the Back Bay and Lower Roxbury, overall Part One crime – which includes incidents of homicide, rape (including attempted rape), robbery (including attempted robbery), aggravated assault, burglary (including attempted burglary), larceny (including attempted larceny) and motor vehicle theft (including attempted motor vehicle theft) – was down 12 percent during the period beginning Jan. 1, 2013 and ending April 22, 2013 compared to the same period in 2012. While searching for bed bugs in a South End apartment, a pest control crew found two guns.
Two South End residents face weapons charges today after pest control inspectors found guns in their apartment. Sayira Cooper, 24, of the South End, and Dannie E. Levy, 29, of Mattapan were charged with unlawful possession of firearm, possession of firearm with altered serial numbers, improper storage of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, according to police. Upon a routine bed bug inspection, a crew lifted a mattress in the master bedroom of an apartment at 16 E. Brookline St. Saturday afternoon. The Boston Fire Department responded to a chimney fire in the South End on Saturday.
The Boston Fire Department responded to a West Newton condo building on Saturday evening for a chimney with an excessive amount of smoke. Fire officials were on scene for about half an hour, from 6:20 to 6:50 p.m. before ruling there was no fire. "We investigated, but we found no fire and they coded it a smoke scare," said Boston Fire Department spokesperson Stephen MacDonald.

The victim was robbed at knifepoint on Upton Street.
Boston Police reported a robbery at knifepoint on Upton Street at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning. The suspect is described as a white female with strawberry blond hair. The suspect took a purse at knifepoint and fled in a green BMW. South End Patch will bring you more information as it becomes available.
There are reports of an armed robbery on Saturday night in the South End.
