South End Lags Behind Other Neighborhoods for Residential Solar Power

Through the Solarize Mass-Boston program, 116 contracts were signed to install solar power energy systems across the city's neighborhoods. Except not one contract was signed in the South End.

Residential solar projects will double in Boston after 116 residents in various neighborhoods signed contracts to install solar projects through Solarize Mass-Boston. However, no one in the South End decided to partake in the program, according to statistics from the Mayor's office.  Residents and businesses were offered a group buying program designed to increase interest of purchasing solar energy and reduce its cost, due to buying in bulk. The more people signed up, the more prices dropped, with 41 contracts being signed in the last week of the program. Roslindale led the way with 33 contracts signed, followed by Dorchester with 22, and then Jamaica Plain with 21 contracts. All other neighborhoods were in single digit contracts (please …

What a shame. However as the proud owners of 12 solar panels on a South End residence, I wonder if other programs for going solar than the city's program have been taken into account. By the time we learned about the Mayor's Solarize plan we had already called a purveyor who installed panels at no cost to us at all!
