Capuano Mulling Run for Governor's Seat

The congressman said he plans to think about running for the governorship after Deval Patrick's term expires.

U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano told WBUR News that he will take the next several months to think about whether to run for the governor's seat next year, when Deval Patrick's term expires.  "Part of me thinks that some of the more interesting, more important fights over the next several years might be conducted at statehouses around the country and not necessarily on Capitol Hill," Capuano, 61, told WBUR. Capuano represents the new 7th Congressional District, which covers most of Boston, including the South End. He's held the seat since 1999. Prior to that he was the mayor of Somerville. South End's U.S. Rep. Capuano Voted For Fiscal Cliff Deal

The bill eases portions of the so-called "fiscal cliff."

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a deal late Tuesday to ease portions of the so-called "fiscal cliff," according to the Huffington Post. How did our local representatives in Congress vote? The South End's U.S. Represenative, Rep. Michael Capuano, (D-Somerville) supported the measure. "I am very disappointed that a more comprehensive and balanced agreement could not be reached and I am concerned about how future negotiations over spending will play out," he said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon. "I recognize however, that inaction on the fiscal cliff poses a great risk to our economy. Because of that reality, I voted in favor of the Senate bill."
