Gun Rights Rally on Boston Common Draws Hundreds

Protesters urged lawmakers not to pass Gov. Patrick's proposed gun control bill.

Taking aim at Democrats, the media and others they say are attacking the Second Amendment, hundreds of gun rights activists gathered on the Boston Common Wednesday afternoon to rally to fight a bill that would tighten gun control.  "Every time the government passes new gun control laws it creates a problem," Ying Li, an engineer who participated in the 1989 pro-democracy protests centered on Beijing's Tiananmen Square, told the crowd. The rally was organized by the Gun Owners' Action League and was partly in response to new gun control measures being considered at the State House, including Gov. Deval Patrick's bill to limit firearm purchases to one a month, reduce access to high-powered rounds of ammunition and require background checks …

Poll: Should Schools Superintendent Johnson Resign or Be Removed?

Superintendent Johnson admitted she was wrong for not disciplining a school headmaster who is on probation after allegedly assaulting his wife.

A City Councilor is calling for Boston Public Schools Superintendent Carol Johnson to be removed after she did not discipline a school headmaster after he was arrested for assaulting his wife. Meanwhile, more than 200 Johnson supporters rallied at Jamaica Plain's Bethel A.M.E. Church on Saturday, according to the Globe. Rodney Peterson was the headmaster at the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics & Science in Roxbury, was placed on administrative leave after he was charged with choking his wife last June, and has since left the Boston Public Schools system. Seniors To Protest In Boston Against Proposed Cuts

Thousands of senior citizens are expected to march in the streets Wednesday.

Senior citizens are expected to hold a protest rally at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre Wednesday morning and then march by the offices of Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown in what is promised to be a massive rally to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. The protest is being held as a congressional “super-committee” is putting together a proposal to reduce the federal deficit.  Senator John Kerry is on that committee. Seniors will board buses in several communities in and around Boston for the rally at 270 Tremont Street that is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Buses are expected to transport seniors from Cambridge, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Malden, Worcester, and West Roxbury, according to Jason A.
