Meet Joseph, the Animal Rescue League's Pet of the Week.

Make Sheba the Queen of Your Home

Meet the Animal Rescue League of Boston's pet of the week.

Sheba is a stunning 8-year-old spayed female German Shepherd who found her way to the Animal Rescue League when her owner had to go into a nursing home and could no longer care for her. She loves to spend time with her human companions and most of all get petted and rubbed all over. Don't be fooled by her age because this little lady plays like a puppy. When she gets excited to see you, she will do cute little bunny hops and wag her tail. She loves to play with tennis balls and enjoys running and playing outside on a nice day. Sheba would make a great hiking partner, too. She's fully housetrained and knows her basic commands. She would be best in a home as an only pet because she is not particularly fond of other dogs or cats. If you're …

Nana Needs a Home

The 10-month-old loves to play fetch.

Meet Nana, a 10-month-old spayed female pit mix looking for a new home. She’s a friendly and loveable lady whose activities in the shelter include playing fetch with her human friends and romping around with her fellow shelter dogs in our play yard. In fact, Nana was able to combine her favorite activities during a visit from David “Big Papi” Ortiz, a member of the Boston Red Sox, this past Tuesday. Nana would love to go to a home where she can play fetch on the regular and then cozy up on a warm bed at the end of the day. Being a young lady, she’s still learning her manners and would benefit from continuous daily obedience training to keep her in tip top shape. Stop by ARL or call our Adoption Center for more information about Nana today.

Five Things

Sapphire Looking for an Active Home

The young dog loves to go running with shelter employees.

Meet Sapphire! She is a year-and-a-half old mix that looks like a pit bull. She was brought to the shelter because the owner was not allowed to have her in the home he was living in. She is full grown at around 50 pounds. At this age, she is still very much a puppy and will need a new home where the family has the time and energy to train and exercise her.  Sapphire goes out to playgroup with other young, energetic dogs. She is working on basic obedience training and does well if there are minimal distractions. She is still working on learning to focus around other dogs and distractions like squirrels. She often goes out running with an ARLB staff member and she has been described as PERFECT on runs! She stays right with you, doesn't pull …

Jackson Prefers Star Treatment

Eight-year-old cat loves to be brushed.

Meet Jackson, a handsome and playful 8-year-old male cat. He found himself at ARL when his owner was moving and could not bring him along. Luckily he has made many friends here at the shelter. Jackson is a loving boy who enjoys being held and sitting on laps. He’s very accustomed to star treatment and loves to be brushed and pet. Jackson plays very enthusiastically and is sometimes known to get a bit rough so would do best in a home without young children. Because he expects to be treated like a king he would prefer to go to a home where he is the only pet. If you’re looking for a big sweet loving man, look no further! The Animal Rescue League of Boston, as part of the ASPCA's $100K Save More Lives Challenge, has the ambitious goal of …

Hunter the Terrier Needs a Home

The spirited 1-year-old loves to play with squeaky toys.

Meet Hunter! He’s a 1-year-old neutered male Parson Russell Terrier looking for a new home. Hunter is a very spirited young boy who loves to go for long walks and play with his human companions. You can often see him trotting around the South End with a squeaky toy in his mouth just squeaking away. Hunter has had some one-on-one off leash playtime with dogs with similar playstyles but he can get a little frustrated when walking past other dogs on leash. For this reason, Hunter is looking for an owner who is experienced with dog-selective dogs. Mostly, Hunter would just like a home where he can snuggle with his owner, play with his toys, and take occasional doggy naps. For more information or to meet Hunter, contact ARL Boston today. The …
