Patrick Addresses Hundreds at Rally to Support His Budget Plan [VIDEO]

The rally was organized by Campaign for our Communities, a coalition of over 120 organizations across the commonwealth.

Hundreds of people bused in from across the state packed into a State House auditorim Tuesday morning to rally in support of Gov. Deval Patrick's tax plan, which they say is critical to make much-needed improvements in education and transportation infrastructure.  The rally, which was organized by Campaign for our Communities, a coalition of over 120 organizations across the commonwealth, ended with attendees heading off to the offices of their representatives, urging them to vote for Patrick's plan. Patrick: We Need to Increase Income Tax to Invest in Our Future

In his State of the Commonwealth address Wednesday night, Gov. Deval Patrick proposed raising the state's income tax by 1 percentage point and lowering the sales tax to pay for $2 billion in transportation improvements and early childhood education programs.  "There is no good time to raise taxes. I know how tough the times have been on the people and families of the Commonwealth.  And though the worst of the recession is over, many, many families still face tough decisions and have deep anxiety about the future. The state leader joined rabbis from around the Boston area in celebrating the fifth night of Hanukkah on Wednesday.

Gov. Deval Patrick joined rabbis and members of Boston's Jewish community to light the menorah in Copley Square on the fifth night of Hanukkah. "It is my honor, and joy, to be with you all to recognize the significance of an ancient truth, which is that freedom is light. And let us all let that light shine in our lives, in our communities, in our Commonwealth and in our country. And, indeed, in the hearts of those especially suffering all around the world. New Legislation Strengthens, Safeguards Long-Term Care Choices

The law creates standards for long-term care insurance to make such coverage more secure and portable.

Thanks to a new state law eight years in the making, seniors now have more assurances that the long-term care they need will be available. Gov. Deval Patrick signed, “An Act Establishing Standards for Long-Term Care Insurance,” which "ensures the availability of long-term care insurance policies, protects long-term care applicants from unfair or deceptive sales or enrollment practices, and promotes flexibility and customization according to an individual’s long-term care needs," according to the governor's office.
