Trend For Summer: Flower Prints

Don a cotton flowered skirt... and twirl around in it!

I spotted Ashley, (a South End seamstress who works for the local company Elemental Threads) and stopped to ask about her "vintage" style.  I soon found out her skirt was a modern Anthropologie skirt, yet it was quite obvious the skirt's designers had borrowed heavily from fabric designs from the 1950s. Not coincidentally, Ashley named both 1950s pin-up girls and housewives as the main inspiration for her looks. Here with her on-trend bright floral skirt she wears a Betsey Johnson necklace and bag, Old Navy tank top, belt from Buffalo Exchange, Target sunglasses,, and shoes from DSW.

On Trend: Fashionable White Boots

SoWa shopper finds inspiration in Victorian style.

I spotted Tuleen while she was out with her husband at the SoWa Market. I noticed her boots first -- the hue reminded me of the white Gaultier boots I keep seeing in recent fashion editorials. She says she is inspired by her "friends and by Victorian style." Her husband says he's inspired by his wife. Here Tuleen wears an Anthropologie jacket, white boots from Sperry, earrings found at the SoWa Market, and a scarf and leggings from H&M.

Flea Market Styling

How to look anything but boring.

I stopped local artist Amanda mainly to ogle her fabulous gold shoes. Her outfit is perfect for a temperate Sunday afternoon of flea marketing. She says she often raids a pile of goodies that used to belong to her grandmother and uses those pieces to add funk to her outfits. She aims to never "look boring." Here she wears vintage plastic dangle earrings, an Anthropologie jacket, vintage scarf from her grandmother, Diesel jeans, and gold Sperry Topsiders.

Spotted in the South End

Creature of Comfort

Cozy winter weekend look.

Jessica S. can often be spotted in the South End soaking up arts and culture events. This time, I found her while she was out walking Oscar, her cute Wheaton Terrier. Jessica's outfit is a great example of stylish weekend style: cute and versatile layers matched with hip accessories.  Jessica says she builds her winter looks by buying comfortable wardrobe staples like the kind she's been craving lately: "cozy sweaters, scarves, slouchy hats, and skinny jeans." Jessica's hat is from H&M, her glasses are from 9Five, her hoodie is from Allsaints, her leather jacket is from Anthropologie, her jeans are from BDG, and her boots are Frye.
