The Boston Police Department's District D4 station serves the South End as well as Back Bay, Lower Roxbury and the Fenway. Officers and detectives at D4 respond to an array of crimes ranging from panhandling complaints to burglary and assault crimes. The district also runs several education and prevention programs including R.A.D. (Women's Self-Defense class), senior and junior Police Academies, G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) and Operation Impact, a coalition of law enforcement agencies aimed at reducing youth violence.
