Swimming pool safety!

I love swimming especially in an outdoor pool in the summer. Who doesn't? What better way to cool off than to lap around in a pool! CDC fast facts say that swimming is the fourth most popular recreational activity in the US and the most popular recreational activity for children and teens!
Here are a few tips on what to watch out for and how to keep you and your kids safe?
Health hazards -
Swimmer's ear - infection of the ear canal called otitis externa, treated with antibiotics.
Gastroenteritis - most common is cryptosporidium which is very resistant to chlorine. Giardia is another common water borne illness.
Eye infections
Rash

How to prevent -
Don't swim if you have any infection, like diarrhea / eye infection or rash.
Shower with soap before and after swimmibg
Take bathroom breaks
Wash your hands after using the bathrooms
If its your own pool make sure about the chlorine content and the pH of the water.

Swim healthy!
