Boston Schools to Open Up Search for New Teachers

Officials are looking to recruit from outside the Boston district for as many as 1,000 positions.

Boston Public Schools are looking to recruit new teachers for as many as 1,000 positions, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday

School officials are looking to hire for the positions by freeing principals from having to hire teachers who currently bid on job openings in an effort to boost competition with suburban and charter schools that tend to hire teachers several months earlier than in Boston, according to the report.

Many of the 1,000-some jobs would open up due to attrition or expiring provisional teaching terms and would be available to candidates from outside the district through the website TeachBoston.org, according to the Herald.
