The Golden Dome is Despicable

The juxtaposition is jarring.

On top of the hill is a building that was built with money taken with force from hard working people.  At the bottom of the hill (in a newly renovated park, no less) are people who take time out of their day to help those in need - no force necessary.

This picture is quite unsettling because to top off the aforementioned building (literally), the bandits who constructed it decided they would be so arrogant as to cover the dome with gold leaf.

So, instead of allowing people to retain their hard earned property (as all people have a natural right to), a small minority decided to forcefully expropriate the property of peaceful persons in order to build a monument unto themselves.

You can almost hear the glee in this author’s description of the dome’s last re-gilding (!) in 1997:

“Despite a canvas scrim draped over the scaffold to cut the wind, a cloud of golden flakes whirled down Beacon Street almost every day until the project was complete. In fact, so much gold leaf blew away that the contractor had to order more in order to complete the project!”

Imagine that!  I’m sure when most people put a new roof onto their house, they do NOT let the contractor allow the valuable material to fall to the ground, forever lost, in a “cloud of golden flakes”.

The only reason such opulence is ever attempted in the first place is because the State does not operate like a peaceful person.  Peaceful individuals must produce something of worth to trade with other people in order to prosper.

The State, however, seizes all within its reach in order to satisfy its fancy, and any attempts to not “pay your tax” are met with stiff resistance - even if your property is destined to become the folly of “a cloud of golden flakes.”
