South End Donors Go All In for Obama in June

Bostonians who opened their wallets to presidential candidates in June made it abundantly clear who they want to win this November: Barack Obama.

That was especially true in the South End, where donors gave $41,320 to the president in June. That was Obama's third-largest haul in the city, behind only Jamaica Plain and Back Bay. By comparison, Romney netted $350 from only South End donors in the entire month.

In all, the president raised nearly 11 times as much as the former Massachusetts Governor in June, stemming from 17 times as many campaign transactions.

Romney performed best in the North End Waterfront area, where Obama raised only 50 percent more than the former governor. Romney's Boston campaign headquarters is located on Commercial Street.

In total, Boston donors gave more than $357,000 to the two presidential campaigns last month in more than 1,400 transactions.

While the state’s voting history may explain some of the lopsided results shown here, it’s also worth noting that president Obama held fundraisers in the city in late June.
