Police: Patrols Increased After Attempted Sexual Assault

Woman reports being assaulted near Dartmouth Street and Columbus Avenue Friday morning.

Boston police said they are increasing patrols in the South End after a woman reported being assaulted near Dartmouth Street and Columbus Avenue at about 4:45 a.m. on Friday.

The woman told officers she was walking in the area when a man assaulted her from behind.  She said she defended herself, causing the man to flee in the direction of Clarendon Street, according to police reports.

The victim described the suspect as a male, dressed in a black hoodie with something covering his face, jeans worn low with plaid boxer shorts, possibly in his 20’s and a slim muscular build

Police said investigators from the Sexual Assault Unit are actively following leads, conducting witness interviews and seeking additional information from the community. They remind residents to increase vigilance and report any suspicious persons in the area.

"Residents should take extra precautions and be aware of surroundings. Lastly, the CrimeStoppers Unit will canvass the area and disseminate ‘Text-a-Tip’ brochures," the Boston police announced on its website.
