Details Emerge Surrounding Sunday's Fatal Shooting in Blackstone Square

A bouquet of red roses, a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap and a number of candles surrounded a tree near the center of Blackstone Square Monday afternoon, as more than 20 people were gathered to remember the 21-year-old Villa Victoria resident who was shot to death in the park the previous night.

The items sat below a few bundles of black-and-yellow balloons, a big red heart-shaped balloon with the words, “I love you,” and messages and photographs of the deceased, which were posted to the tree.

A man at the makeshift memorial said it was too soon to talk to the media Monday and asked for privacy at the site.

A police cruiser was parked at the edge of the park on Shawmut Avenue.

'Humz'

Police have not identified the victim. However, the Boston Globe, Universal Hub and multiple Twitter and Facebook posts reference him as “Hum Greazy” or “Humz,” which was the name he recorded hip-hop music under, according to the Globe. “Hum Greazy,” which is the name he used on Facebook, had previously attended Charlestown High School, according to his Facebook page.

Greazy was shot once in the face at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Globe’s initial report. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

At 11 p.m. Sunday, his body was still near the center of the park, between a fountain and a swing set, according to the Globe.

Second Boston Shooting That Night

About a half hour before Greazy was shot, 25-year-old Keisha Gilmore was shot while sitting in a car on Alabama Street in Mattapan. She later died from her injuries on Monday.

The two Sunday night shootings are the city’s third and fourth homicides of the year.

No arrests have been made in either case, police told the Globe. Police also had no information regarding potential motives in either case, according to the Globe.

Villa Victoria Development

Greazy is the second young male from the Villa Victoria development, at 640 Tremont St., to have been fatally shot in the last sixth months.

On Sept. 3, 18-year-old Alex Sierra was shot and killed less than a quarter mile from Blackstone Square outside the El Barberitos hair salon on Tremont Street.

At the time, Assistant District Attorney Amy Galatis said Sierra, who had no gang ties, was shot after telling the teenage suspects that he lived in the development. She also said at the time that there is a longstanding rivalry between gangs affiliated with Villa Victoria and Mission Hill.

In September, a mother who lived in Villa Victoria shared her concerns about the gang feud and about the need for greater security measures in the area.

Ongoing Investigation

The Boston Police Homicide Unit is investigating Sunday’s shooting in the South End.
