First-Alarm Fire Hits South End Building

Sixth-floor apartment fire had no injuries but caused $50,000 in estimated damage.

A first-alarm fire hit a South End apartment building at 45 East Newton St. early Sunday morning, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage.

On Twitter, the Boston Fire Department reported they responded to a fire alarm activation with fire showing on the 6th floor of the seven-story apartment building.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the window area of the apartment. 

Boston Fire reported the blaze was caused by "an overheated fan that came in contact with some combustibles." No injuries were reported by Boston Fire.
