Police: Man Arrested for Assault at Mass. Ave Shelter

Police arrested a Boston man who reportedly punched a counselor, then allegedly spat on police officers.

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate a conviction.

Officers were called to the Wood Mullen Shelter at 794 Massachusetts Ave. on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. to remove a man who reportedly tried to punch a counselor.

When police arrived, officers reportedly observed the suspect swing at the counselor. The officer stepped between the two and told the suspect to leave the shelter. At this point, the suspect began shouting at the counselor, then at the officer. The suspect then struck the officer in the chest with a closed fist. The officer called for backup as the suspect spat at her.

Officers managed to get the suspect outside the shelter, where he reportedly spat at the officers and attempted to kick one of them. 

Police detained the suspect and placed him into the cruiser. Shelter staff members told police the suspect took another patient’s chair, which lead to a shouting match. The suspect then swung at one of the counselors, they said.

Officers charged Jose Morales of 794 Massachusetts Ave. with assault and battery on an officer, assault and battery, disorderly conduct, trespassing and threats to commit a crime.
