AVELLANEDA CHALLENGES COMPETITORS TO STATE POSITION ON BILLS AND RELEASE QUESTIONNAIRES

Today, Roy Avellaneda, candidate for 2nd Suffolk District state representative seat, stated his support for several pieces of legislation dealing with immigration issues.  Avellaneda declared his support for the federal DREAM ACT, the state level TRUST Act, and giving in-state tuition to the Commonwealth’s undocumented, college-bound seniors.

Avellaneda also called on his opponents in the 2nd Suffolk District, Chris Remmes and Daniel Ryan, to state their positions on these important measures and challenged his competitors to release all candidate questionnaires filled out for endorsing organizations.  Avellaneda will release all of his candidate questionnaires today.

“These bills are about basic human rights and supporting them demonstrates progressive values,” said Roy Avellaneda, candidate for the 2nd Suffolk seat.  “Providing people with the means to better themselves is a central theme for government. The people of the 2nd Suffolk District need to know where each candidate stands on these important issues – especially since 60% of the constituency of Chelsea is Latino.  To date, I’m the only progressive candidate to publicly declare his support for the DREAM Act, and these important immigration-related bills before the Massachusetts legislation.  The people of the 2nd District deserve to know where the other two stand.”

These TRUST Act and the In-State Tuition bill are two hotly debated bills before the Massachusetts Legislature.  A vote is expected on these measures before the end of the 2013-2014 legislative session.

The special election to fill the 2nd Suffolk seat will be held on Tuesday, March 4th.
