Boston Children's Chorus Wins Prestigious Award

This year has been a roller coaster for Boston Children’s Chorus, and it’s only two months into the season. First, we kicked off with a wonderful season opener at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum that sold out in weeks (read a review here). Artistic and administrative staff have also been hard at work implementing a social justice curriculum for our young singers—a process that has been both rewarding and challenging. Finally, we’ve started a new podcast series on SoundCloud, which has given us the chance to sit down with Boston leaders including Taylor Bodman of Brown Brothers Harriman and Catherine D’Amato of the Boston Food Bank, to talk about how music has impacted their lives.

To top it all off, we are thrilled to announce that this year BCC  is one of the recipients of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards, the highest award given to youth programs in the nation. First Lady Michelle Obama wrote in the program for the award ceremony that “Through these programs, young people are discovering their creative voices, developing a stronger sense of who they are as individuals, and gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them. [As] young people navigate today’s challenges, the programs we are honoring offer safe harbors that cultivate enthusiasm for learning, support academic achievement, and promote college readiness.”

Receiving this award is incredibly humbling, and we accept it with gratitude for the hundreds of hours that our supporters have put in through volunteer work and through financial support. We could not have achieved this without the hard work and dedication of the BCC family.

In this Thanksgiving season, we are more than aware of those who have helped BCC get to where it is. This award is a validation of the critical role that the arts play, and for that we are incredibly thankful.
