ArtWeek Boston
It feels like this year there have been a lot of firsts for the Boston arts community. From the first Out of the Box Festival this summer to the 2013 mayoral election marking the first time in decades artists and supporters have rallied to Create the Vote, the vibrancy of arts and culture in Boston continues to prove itself.
This week, there will be a new addition to Boston’s growing roster of annual events that celebrate the coming together of arts, culture and community. Inspired by Restaurant Week, ArtWeek will kick off on Friday, September 27th and continue on until Sunday, October 6th. Also like Restaurant Week, ArtWeek will debut once again in the Spring.
Designed to “showcase arts and cultural organizations collaborating with local businesses to create unique experiences,” this initiative will feature a wide range of events, such as the internationally acclaimed public installation “Play Me, I’m Yours” to performances by dance group Rhythm of Rajasthan. There is something for everyone, much of which is free.

What’s exciting about ArtWeek is that it’s another example of the merging between art and community. Where creativity and public spaces work in tandem to create a unique experience for everyone, proving that art doesn’t have to occur in isolated venues, for specific audiences. The city plays an active role, not just as a backdrop, but as a contributing voice. That’s something I can definitely support.
