Organist Mark Dwyer in recital at Cathedral of the Holy Cross

Mark Dwyer, organist at The Church of the Advent in Boston, presents a solo recital on the historic 1875 E. & G. G. Hook & Hastings Organ, Op. 801, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street in Boston on Sunday, October 27 at 2 PM.  Mr. Dwyer will play a brilliant program of 19th and 20th century works by Cocker, Parry, Vierne, and Franck, plus Widor's complete Symphonie VI.

Mark Dwyer came to the Advent from St Paul's Parish, K Street, in Washington, DC, in 2007.  A Worcester native and graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Yuko Hayashi, William Porter, Frank Taylor and Charles Krigbaum, Mr. Dwyer  has also served as faculty/choirmaster at  annual conferences for young musicians. An active accompanist and recitalist, he has performed throughout North and South America and Europe. He is the performer on a JAV recording of the Advent's Aeolian-Skinner organ in the series "Great Organ Builders of America: A Retrospective."

The Cathedral's magnificent 1875 E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings organ was the largest organ built in the United States at that time, with 101 ranks and 5,292 pipes. The organ's lavish display of foundation choruses, reeds and mixtures, combined with the vast structure of the Cathedral itself, creates the perfect instrument to perform French romantic and contemporary repertoire.

This is the 24th annual Organ Benefit Recital with all donations going to the organ's maintenance funds.  Suggested donation at the door is $15, just $10 for seniors and students.  Handicap access to the Cathedral is at the Union Park Street ramp.  For further information, please call 617-542-5682.  Directions to Cathedral of the Holy Cross can be found at http://www.holycrossboston.com.
