Restoration Resources Owner Bill Raymer to Speak at ArchitectureBoston Expo

Bill Raymer, owner of the South End antique store Restoration Resources, has been  invited to speak at the ArchitectureBoston Expo (ABX) on Friday, November 16 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.  Raymer, an architectural salvage expert, will be presenting as a member of the interior design group Steampunk by Design.

At the convention, Raymer will discuss the history, methods and importance of architectural salvage. He will also explain how antiques can be repurposed conventionally or transformed through steampunk, a new design medium that integrates technology into recycled pieces.

Raymer knew little about steampunk before working with the team. Over time, he has developed an appreciation for a design method that is often considered avant-garde. “I love the beauty, history and craftsmanship found in antique salvage,” he said.  “Steampunk enables customers to have the modern solutions they want along with the aesthetic appeal of vintage objects.”

At the expo, Raymer will be joined by the rest of the Steampunk by Design team, which includes Dennis Dubuc of Audio Concepts, Mark Landsburg of MLA Consultants, Linda Hentschel of Renaissance Interiors, and Bruce Rosenbaum of ModVicLLC.  The team has collaborated on a number of projects, including a bandsaw computer work station and a “steampunked home theater room” located at the Audio Concepts store on Commonwealth Avenue.  ABX attendees will learn how these pieces, all of which came from salvaged antiques, were recycled and repurposed through technology.
