City of Boston, Highland Street Foundation & Boston Red Sox Recreate Fenway Experience at Jim Rice Field with “Out of the Park” Event

Roxbury residents came out on Memorial Day weekend to attend the inaugural Fenway “Out of the Park” event at Jim Rice Field on Sunday, May 25. The event featured Boston Red Sox Mascot Wally the Green Monster, Fenway Park DJ TJ Connelly and The Hot Tamales Brass Band. The kick-off event formally unveiled the first-of-its-kind initiative which brought Major League Baseball and the Fenway game experience to Roxbury.

The “Out of the Park” event recreated the offerings found at Fenway Park and Yawkey Way, with caricaturists, balloon artists, face painters, giveaways, and free Fenway fare, including popcorn, ice cream by Hood and Kayem’s famous Fenway Franks.

The free event featured a live viewing of the Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays away game, broadcast by the New England Sports Network (NESN) on a massive big screen with cut-ins by a live game announcer.

“Out of the Park,” a series of three, free special events feature Red Sox away game screenings at Boston area parks this summer, replete with many of the sights, sounds and amenities that have come to define the Fenway Park game day experience for generations of New Englanders.

Families are encouraged to picnic and cheer on the Red Sox during the two remaining “Out of the Park” events on the following dates and locations:

• Sunday, June 22 4:05 PM at Franklin Park in Dorchester
• Sunday, July 27 1:40 PM at the Boston Common
