Berklee Presents Free Summer Concerts at Carson Beach

Boston, MA, July 15, 2013  – UMass Boston’s WUMB 91.9 FM, and Berklee College of Music have teamed up to present WUMB and Berklee Concerts at Carson Beach, bringing free live music to Dorchester Saturdays in August between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The concerts feature Berklee students and alumni groups Joe's Truckstop (August 3), Bronwyn Keith-Hynes (August 10), We Avalanche (August 17), and The Dwells (August 24). Musical genres will blend between folk, bluegrass, and pop with instrumentation that includes voice, guitar, violin, cello, and mandolin. These free concerts are a part of Berklee Summer in the City, presented by Natixis Global Asset Management, and will be held weather permitting.

August 3 - Joe's Truck Stop

Joe’s Truck Stop- Joseph Macheret, Lucy Cochran- has a unique sound that is characterized by bluegrass vocal harmonies and twin fiddle lines, driving Appalachian dance tunes, and lonely honky tonk songs. 

 

August 10 - Bronwyn Keith-Hynes

Keith-Hynes is fast gaining recognition for her fiddling across many genres, including bluegrass, Irish, Cape Breton, and old‐time music.  She has performed at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts; The Inter‐Celtic Festival in Lorient, France; and the Freshgrass Bluegrass Festival, among others. She toured France in 2012 with the international Irish music and dance show Celtic Dances, and has also performed with Tomaseen Foley’s Irish Times show alongside Grammy winner Bill Coulter.   Accepted on a scholarship to Berklee College of Music at age 16, she graduated in 2013 with a diploma in Violin Performance.

 

August 17 - We Avalanche

Characterized by their unique blend of voice, guitar, cello, and mandolin, We Avalanche puts a new spin on traditional music.  The group has drawn comparisons to acts such as Elliott Smith, Sonic Youth, and Joanna Newsom.  Their debut album, Time Travels, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee.

August 24 - The Dwells

The Dwells- Paige Califano and Matthew Bean- feature swirling vocals, memorable lyrics and infectious songwriting, pulling inspiration from drama and expression in all mediums. Their new album Don't Ever Leave Me Like You Do, released in May, is a collaboration with legendary folk musician and photographer  Henry Diltz.
