What's Open, Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Libraries, retail stores and most post offices are open for business Dec. 24.

Here's a list of what's open (and closed) this week for the Christmas holiday:

Monday, Dec. 24:

  • Retail stores: Most open, some with varied hours.
  • Supermarkets, liquor stores and convenience stores: Most open.
  • Bars and restaurants: Most open, click here for a list of Boston restaurants open on Christmas Eve.
  • Stock market: Closes at 1 p.m.
  • Municipal offices: Closed.
  • Banks: Some open, most close early.
  • Libraries: Open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Schools: Closed.
  • Post office: Open, although many will close at noon. Regular mail delivery will take place, last mailbox collections will be at noon.
  • MBTA: Operating on a modified schedule.
  • Parking Meters: In effect.
  • Municipal Tow Lot:  Open 8 a.m. - noon.
  • Trash/Recycling: Regular schedule.

Tuesday, Dec. 25:

  • Convenience stores: Most open.

  • Banks: Closed.
  • Libraries: Closed.
  • Schools: Closed.
  • Post office: Closed.
  • MBTA: Operating on a modified schedule.
  • Parking Meters: Free, time limit in effect.
  • Municipal Tow Lot:  Closed, reopens Monday at 7 a.m. 
  • Trash/Recycling: Regular schedule.
