Watch out for Fake RMV Websites

Fake websites that resemble an official Massachusetts RMV site have begun to pop up, according to a WCVB report.

WCVB’s Newscenter 5 reported this week that drivers attempting to renew their licenses are being scammed out of money by sites that resemble the official Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles website.

WCVB reports that consumers should watch out for sites without links to other state agencies and warns not to rely on Google to find the site. Another warning something is off is if the site asks you to pay at the beginning as opposed to at the end.

A state official told WCVB that fees will always be the final step in a transaction on an official state page.

The official Massachusetts RMV site can be found at www.massrmv.com.
