Things to Know in the South End Today, Oct. 9: City Councilors at Franklin/Blackstone

Here are five things going on in and around the South End today.

1. Weather: The National Weather Service predicts a cloudy day with a 50 percent chance of rain with highs in the upper 50s. The evening will be cloudy with a chance of rain as well. The temperature will drop to the upper 40s.

2. Meet your City Councilors: Tonight there's a meeting of the Blackstone/Franklin Square Neighborhood Association featuring the South End's city councilors. Come by the meeting to ask a question. The meeting starts at 7 p.m at Las Ventas (700 Harrison Ave.)

3. South End Writes: The Friends of the South End Library  are presenting the next speaker in The South End Writes series, the distinguished Harvard sociologist, educator and South End resident Sara Lawrence Lightfoot. She will talk about her book,The Third Chapter: Passion, Risk and Adventure in the 25 Years after Fifty tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the South End branch. All are welcome.

4. Hamlet: “To be or not to be…” ArtsEmerson is hosting the classic Shakespeare tale of Hamlet from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
