Sold Out 'Brewfest' Raises Over $16K for USES

United South End Settlements' Brewers Helping Neighbors fundraiser last week featured beer, food, music and four former New England Patriots players.

The following is a press release from United South End Settlements:

United South End Settlements’ (USES) held its third annual Brewers Helping Neighbors fundraiser at the South End’s Harriet Tubman House on Thursday evening, Feb. 2.

A sellout crowd of more than 300 guests sampled beer from Blue Hills Brewery, Clown Shoes Beer, Harpoon Brewing Company, Mayflower Brewery, Mercury Brewing Company, and Sam Adams Brewing Company.

Some favorite brews included Harpoon’s Munich Dark, Clown Shoes’ Clementine Belgian White Ale, and the stalwart favorite of New Englanders, Sam Adams’ Winter Lager.

Food was provided by Clerys, Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen, Not Your Average Joe's, and New York Pizza. From Darryl’s famous catfish fingers to Not Your Average Joe’s new menu item, Thai chicken lettuce wraps and Clerys’ scallops wrapped in bacon, every morsel was devoured by the hungry crowd.

Mix 104.1’s Kennedy Elsey hosted the evening between sets of live music by band, Los Three.

Former New England Patriots attended

Four New England Patriots alumni dropped by to stir up the crowd in preparation for Sunday’s Super Bowl game, including three-time Super Bowl champ, Joe Andruzzi, accompanied by Ilia Jarostchuk, Steve King and Bill Matthews.

USES’ program participant, Toni Morgan, a mother of eight children, shared how she was helped by the organization.

“I don’t know where I would be without the help of United South End Settlements. USES stood by me when the father of my children passed away.  It was a very painful and difficult time for my family.  USES was there for us,” said Morgan.

“What an amazing party!”, said USES’ President and CEO, Kevin Hepner, “Last night’s Brewers Helping Neighbors clearly demonstrated that collective efforts have far-reaching results.  We all gathered in a spirit of fun and celebration for the sole purpose of helping our neighbors in need.”

Event raised $16,773

The event raised $16,773 in support of USES’ programs and services that have been serving thousands of Boston’s most vulnerable people for more than 120 years.
