Five Things: Carol Johnson Celebrates with the Community Music Center

The superintendent of Boston Public Schools attended a gala celebrating the South End non-profit's fundraising efforts.

Today is Tuesday, October 11. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. Sunny today but cooler, with highs in the mid 60s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

2. BPS Superintendent Carol Johnson showed support for the at Play Your Part, the public launch of CMCB’s $4.5 million Centennial Campaign for Legacy & Innovation. After raising 70% ($3.2 million) in their “quiet phase”, the South End non-profit celebrated this success with musical performances by students at the Boylston Congregational Church in Jamaica Plain.

3. Want to be on the School Committee? Apply to the board, which is picked by Mayor Thomas Menino, using the PDF attached to this post. The terms of two members — Claudio Martinez of JP and Marchelle Raynor of Roxbury — are expiring. Both are expected to re-apply, but they'd have to be chosen again through a process that includes new applicants. Deadline is noon on Nov. 14.

4. The Occupy Boston movement has a new website. The site, called "The Occupy Boston Globe," includes a daily calendar of events, news stories, opinion pieces and a "Print Edition".
