Google's Doodle 4 Google Contest Is Back! Calling K-12 Students Across the U.S. to Draw and Win Big

You’ve probably seen Google doodles, the fun versions of the logo on google.com — remember the Les Paul guitar one? Or the one just a couple weeks ago celebrating primatologist Dian Fossey? Once a year, Google invites K-12 students across the U.S. the chance to have their very own Google doodle showcased on www.google.com through the Doodle 4 Google competition.

Google announced the 2014 Doodle 4 Google competition, with the theme “If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place...” So many of the world’s greatest inventions started out as simple doodles — just think of Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings of flying machines long before airplanes were made. Google hopes students will think big, and surprise us all with their creative ideas, just like they’ve done in years past!

Creating the best doodle comes with major perks: in addition to seeing their doodle displayed on our homepage after the competition closes, the winner will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for their school. The winner will also become an honorary Google doodler for a day and animate their doodle with the Google team in Mountain View.

Students can submit doodles until March 20, and Google will announce a winner from every state on April 29. Last year’s Massachusetts’ winner was Harrison Sloat of John R. Fausey Elementary in West Springfield. The national winner’s animated doodle will be live on google.com for one day in June.
