Teranga A Finalist in ‘Deck the Windows’ Contest

Voting for the city's best holiday storefront opened Monday and will last one week.

A Senegalese restaurant on Washington Street is still in the running for having Boston’s best holiday window display.

, at 1746 Washington St., was named as one of 18 finalists Monday in the city’s “Deck the Windows of Boston Main Streets” contest, according to a release from Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s office.

The restaurant’s windows feature holiday wreaths and ribbons surrounded by lights.

Voting

Voting for the city’s overall winner (click here to vote) began Monday and will continue until next Monday, Dec. 19. In the first round, local judges selected winners from each of the Boston Main Streets districts, with Teranga winning the Washington Gateway Main Street district.

Other South End Winners

Also in the South End, , at 256 Shawmut Ave., was selected as a winner, although not a city finalist, and and received honorable mentions.

The overall contest is part of Menino’s “Holidays on Main Streets” campaign, which attempts to encourage city residents to shop in their local business districts.
