Graybar Electric Building to Become Apartments

Two-multi family apartment buildings will be constructed at the site of Graybar Electric on Harrison Ave.

Just when you thought more development couldn't possibly be coming to Harrison Avenue, a developer filed plans with the Boston Redevelopment Authority this week to turn the Graybar Electric building into two multi-family apartment buildings.

The building would have 515,000 square feet designated for 560 rental units and 30,000 square feet of retail space.

In the filing with the BRA, the owners wrote they had met with community representatives and had begun to discuss the project.

"The owner and its development team are committed to meaningful community involvement in the design process for this project," wrote John E. Rattigan, Jr. in a letter of intent.

The building sold for $14 million in 2012 to Burlington-based Nord-blom Co.

The new development site is directly across from the large scale Ink Block development that broke ground earlier this year and will include condos and a Whole Foods Market, and the Albany Street dual-apartment complex building that is also currently in the works.
