BMC Raises Donate Life Flag

Donate Life Month/BMC Donate Life Flag Raising

April is National Donate Life Month, an opportunity to continue education efforts, celebrate the lives saved and enhanced through donation and honor the donors who made the ultimate gift. You can celebrate this special time by discussing organ and tissue donation with friends and family, encourage others to join the registry and help raise awareness.

Boston Medical Center's (BMC) shared goal is to continue working toward increasing the number of registered donors with the hope of reducing the time it takes for a transplant and to reduce deaths on the waitlist to zero. Dr. Chris Andry, executive director for Cancer Care Services at BMC kicked off the event by introducing Eileen Sullivan, a recipient of two lung transplants, told us of her rich and fulfilled life, impossible without the generosity of two donor families. BMC's flag raising is to recognize the generosity and commitment of donors and their families, the gratitude of recipients of organs and tissues that save and alter peoples lives and to recognize the hard work and commitment of BMCs administration, faculty, nursing and staff who support our patients every day. BMC also recognized Mr Richard Luskin, CEO of the New England Organ Bank and Diego Martinez, our hospital liaison.
