BDA Seeking Nominations for 2012 Dance Champion Award

Nominations for the award are due Jan. 20.

The following is a press release from Boston Dance Alliance:

Boston Dance Alliance (BDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting dance in the Boston area, has announced that it is now accepting nominations for its 2012 Dr. Michael Shannon Dance Champion Award, an honor created by Boston Dance Alliance in 2004 to recognize members of the dance community who have made important and lasting contributions to advocacy of dance in Boston.

The Dr. Michael Shannon Dance Champion Award is presented to one winner every year at BDA’s annual spring gala. Prior award winners include Adrienne Hawkins, Amy Zell Ellsworth, Marcus Schulkind, Jeannette Neill, Marianne Taylor, De Ama Battle, Iris Fanger and Jeanne Hays Beaman.

BDA has established Jan. 20 as the deadline to receive nominations.

“This is an exciting time of year for us as applications start to come in and we prepare to recognize another important dance leader in our community,” said Ruth Birnberg, executive director of Boston Dance Alliance. “We are eager to present the 2012 Dance Champion at the gala in May.”

The nominee should be someone who:

  • Has had great impact on the dance community in the Boston Metropolitan area
  • Has provided a continuing legacy of leadership, initiative, creativity and contribution (this can be through an institution, students, writings, dancers and/or choreography)
  • Is at least 60 years old at the time of nomination

To request an online nomination form, email Ruth Birnberg at rbirnberg@bostondancealliance.org. Nominations are again due by Jan. 20.
