Where Not to Drive in Boston This Weekend

With several events requiring street closures, drivers, should take note of these traffic detours and parking restrictions for July 12-20.

The City of Boston has issued a traffic advisory related to Bastille Day and Circle the City events happening in the area from July 12-14.

Special events taking place in Boston this weekend will require the implementation of traffic detours and temporary parking restrictions on local streets. Those coming into the city to join in the festivities are encouraged to take advantage of the MBTA. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should take extra care to obey the rules of the road and to be aware and considerate of others using local streets.

Back Bay - Friday, July 12

The annual Bastille Day celebration will bet taking place on Friday on Marlborough Street, between Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street, in Boston’s Back Bay.  Vehicular traffic will be restricted for the event. In addition, temporary Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event restrictions will be in effect on Friday on this portion of Marlborough Street.

Fenway - Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13

The Jason Aldean concerts taking place at Fenway Park on Friday and Saturday will require the implementation of temporary Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event 2-11:59 p.m. restrictions at the following locations. 

  • Brookline Avenue, both sides, from Overland Street to Lansdowne Street
  • Overland Street, even side, from Brookline Avenue to the dead end
  • Boylston Street, south side, from opposite Ipswich Street to Brookline Avenue.
  • Lansdowne Street, both sides, from Brookline Avenue to Ipswich Street
  • Ipswich Street, both sides, from Boylston Street to opposite Lansdowne Street, excluding any existing HP-DV parking regulations.
  • Van Ness Street, both sides, from Ipswich Street to Kilmarnock Street
  • Yawkey Way, both sides, from Van Ness Street to Brookline Avenue

Back Bay/Fenway - Sunday, July 14

A Circle the City event will be taking place on Sunday on the westbound side of Huntington Avenue, from Belvidere Street to Francis Street, and this portion of the street will be closed to motorized vehicles from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, temporary Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event parking restrictions will be in place at the following locations beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday and lasting for the duration of the event.

  • Huntington Avenue, north side of westbound lane, from Belvidere Street to Francis Street.
  • Forsyth Street, both sides, from Huntington Avenue to Hemenway Street. 

DOWNTOWN/GOVERNMENT CENTER - Saturday, July 13 through Saturday, July 20

“Outside the Box” will be taking place on Boston Common and on Boston City Hall Plaza from Saturday, July 13 through Saturday, July 20. 

  • Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, July 8-22 temporary restrictions are in effect on the Boston Public Garden side of Charles Street, from the Center Gate of the Public Garden to Beacon Street.
  • Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, July 11 – 20 temporary restrictions will be in effect on the Boston Public Garden side if Charles Street, from Boylston Street to the Center Gate of the Public Garden.
  • Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, July 15 – 22 temporary restrictions will be in effect on Cambridge Street, both sides, from Court Street to Somerset Street, excluding the electric vehicle charging stations.
