I-93 Southbound Closed Late Tuesday Night

Expect a long detour Tuesday night.

Late-night commuters, beware. The Department of Transportation will close the southbound side of I-93 from Rt. 38 to the Herald Street onramp Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The Nov. 5-6 closure will allow crews access to perform maintenance on the lower deck, Zakim Bridge and O'Neill Tunnel.

Southbound drivers will be diverted at the Rt. 38 exit, where they'll have to navigate surface roads all the way down to the Albany Street ramp, where they can reenter the highway. The closure starts at 11 p.m.. The road will reopen to traffic at 5 a.m..

"Traffic destined for I-90 Westbound will access the I-90 Westbound on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street," wrote the department in its announcement.

Weather-permitting, a similar closure is tentatively planned for Nov. 19-20.
