The city has had an issue finding a solution to a longstanding problem with Bostonβs extremely popularHubway bicycle share system: How would it provide helmets?
The Boston Globe reports that the solution will come in the form of helmet vending machines to be placed at the Boston Public Library Hubway station in Copley Square and three others this month.
The machines, produced by South Boston-based HelmetHub, will vend helmets for rent or purchase by credit card. The helmets will likely cost $2 to rent, and if a helmet is not returned within 24 hours, the user will be charged a fee of about $20 and will then own the helmet, according to the Globe.
