Five Things: Efforts Made to Keep Blackstone, Franklin Squares Cleaner

Today is Monday, March 19. Here are five things you need to know:

1. It’s looking like a near-perfect week weather wise in the South End. See the attached photo from Weather.com for more information.

2. At a recent meeting, the Friends of Blackstone and Franklin Squares took two steps aimed at keeping the parks cleaner and more welcoming.

The friends allocated funds to replace the parks’ “oil-drum” trash barrels with 18 of the “black and ornate” receptacles that can be seen on many South End sidewalks. The new receptacles will go in at each park entrance and then four will be placed in the middle of each park. The friends were also planning to check with the city to see if BigBelly trash receptacles can be placed outside the parks as well.
