KPMG HOSTS “READING RELAY” EVENT AT QUINCY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
KPMG hosted a national “Reading Relay” at the Quincy Elementary School on Wednesday, November 6 in Boston, MA.
KPMG firm offices throughout the country are conducting events at schools and organizations that serve children from low-income families. KPMG people, spouses, other family members, and alumni volunteered their time and read to the children and donated five new books to take home, which included The Cat in the Hat, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Charlotte’s Web, Amelia Bedelia and Where the Wild Things Are.
KPMG’s Family for Literacy program is devoted to combating childhood illiteracy. Children who read below grade level in fourth grade are four times as likely to become high school drop-outs. The toughest roadblock to literacy in low-income communities is a lack of access to books. Over the past 5 years, KPMG has distributed more than 2 million new books to children in need across the country.
