Detainee's Death haunts Tompkins

BOSTON- Detainee’s death haunts Tompkins

Suffolk County Interim Sheriff Steven Tompkins of 106 Williams Street in Hyde Park is under fire for the death of a man who was held under the care, control, and custody of Tompkins in the Nashua Street Jail almost a month ago on January 12, 2014.  Since the discovery of the man found dead, Tompkins has been silent on the matter of how the individual died and who the person’s identity is.

Tompkins, a former New York State resident, is criticized for having zero law enforcement experience.  Tompkins who served as press secretary for Andrea Cabral before she was promoted to Governor Patrick's cabinet, is most famously known for producing promotional videos and commercials for AT&T.

Since Tompkins became "Acting Sheriff," Tompkins has been the center of much controversy most recently with his appearance in front of a Roxbury District Court Criminal Magistrate on September 10, 2013 for unlawfully pulling out his badge and abusing his power by intimidating Boston Store Owners who were supporting his rival Douglas Bennett for Sheriff.
