Dozens of protesters gathered outside Bank of America's South End branch Saturday morning to demand that the corporation pay its fair share in taxes.

The protest/teach in, which began inside the bank before moving to the sidewalk, was organized by US Uncut, a grassroots movement organized solely through word of mouth and social media.

According to the protesters, corporations like Bank of America, Verizon and FedEx aren't paying their fair share in taxes, contributing greatly to cuts in public services.

On Saturday, protesters circled in front of the bank's lobby holding signs with slogans like "Bank of America, Y U No Pay Taxes?" and "Banking on Misery." Professor John Miller, who led the protest, used a megaphone to describe deep cuts being made to education, community health care centers, anti-poverty programs for children and housing assistance for the disabled.

According to US Uncut's website, Bank of America paid $0 in federal income taxes in 2009 despite earning over $4 billion.

A government study released in 2008 found that about 57 percent of U.S. companies doing business in the United States paid no federal income taxes for at least one year between 1998 and 2005. The report did not name any companies.
