Parish Cafe Seeks Tree Removal, Again

The cafe has submitted a redesigned proposal for the removal of two trees on Tremont Street to make way for outdoor seating.

is seeking permission from the city to remove two trees along Tremont Street in order to expand outdoor seating at its South End location.

A public hearing on the proposal will be held Tuesday, October 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room of the located on the third floor of 1010 Massachusetts Avenue.

This is the second time the café has requested permission to remove the two trees, one green ash and one elm. Last fall, a proposal to remove the trees was rejected because the department felt their removal would negatively alter the streetscape, department spokesperson Jacquelyn Goddard said on Tuesday.

This year, the café has submitted a redesigned proposal, formed with input from the city arborist, Goddard said. Although details of the proposal are not being released, the city's tree warden called the redesign “a very workable solution,” Goddard said.

Members of the public are invited to attend the hearing, where the redesigned proposal will be presented in full. Comments must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, October 14 to be considered. 

A decision regarding the tree removal will be made within two weeks of the hearing.
