New Radio Station 96.9 Changes Again - True Station Now A Mystery
After just one day on the air, Power 96.9 is no more and an electronic dance station has taken its place according to the Greater Boston Media Group. What type of station will the new channel finally end up being?
Update: 96.9 has changed for good into a hip hop/rock station.
-- Original Article --
If you tuned in to 96.9 Thursday morning and were hoping to hear either news talk radio or hip hop, you're out of luck.
After shutting down NewsTalk 96.9 on Wednesday in favor of Power 96.9, a new hip hop and R&B channel, 96.9 morphed again today into an eletronic dance station, Nova.
"The transformation of the new 96.9 FM continued today at 10 a.m. with the launch of NOVA, Boston’s new electronic dance music (EDM) station," announced Greater Media Boston in a statement.
"Plan on more surprises to be unveiled throughout the week," the statement said.
It doesn't take too much speculation to realize the station will change all week at 10 a.m. each day.
Is the publicity stunt working? Do you still trust Greater Media Boston? Tell us in the comments.

I do hope you bring Jim and Marjorie back. They are real people with real ideas. There are plenty of music channels ----and get real---- people listen to their own selection of music on the many apparatus there are out there. They rarely turn on radio for music.

There is always room for a station to replace Oldies 103.3. Find a place for good music, not a lot of talk and for Barry Scott and the lost 45's.

so i've become more and more dissappointed since Jay Severen left the station; we have way too much PC talk out there. I'm always looking for talk show hosts who dont give in to the rest of the country with everyone has to feel good nonsense. Michael Graham was really the only one left I really enjoyed. So I'm done with 96.9

The current incarnation isn't bad - but surprisingly it's a clone of what 101.7 just turned into (EDM Music). Guess we'll see at 10am today if the format changes yet again.

You went downhill since Jay Severin was fired. Michael Graham was good as the late night shows (some). Used to be a dedicated listener than you got Doug Meehan ( loved him doing traffic hated him on talk) and it was downhill. What happened to REAL TALK RADIO....bring that back! Themusic format is horrible....ALL OF THEM!

Newstalk 96.9 was the only talk radio I enjoyed listening to. Now, it's a dance music station, and Boston JUST got 2 new dance/techno music stations - 103.3 and 101.7. Too much all at once, and I won't be listening to any of these new stations. I know a lot of people who are really upset that 96.9 talk radio is gone. You won't last long competing with these other 2 dance/techno stations, plus kiss 108 and 94.5 on other end.

this new format is nothing but a JOKE, the hard working people of ma deserve better. leave our talk radio alone, bring Jim and Marjorie back, and most importantly we need Susan Kaplan and Rick Shaffer back on the radio educated those hard working people about Money.

Music in itself is not a job but when hundreds of stations are playing music why add another music station that plays the same music?

You had the best, you fired and let go all the rest for what? Now you only play to the mostly "uninformed" segment of our population. I actually tried off and on for the first two weeks to give your music a chance; but with so much competition out there, we need to go back to a Talk format with a station with the " political balls" not being afraid of left wing backlash. I can't believe you got rid of Rick Schaffer and Susan Kaplan! What a wealth of knowledge they provided to all of us. I have followed them for years, and thanks to them, my portfolio looks pretty darn good. You really need to reconsider bringing them back. With Sirius xm, I can find music everywhere except your station, but I can't find Rick and Susan. You are making a grave mistake and you will lose lots of viewers.
