MBTA Opens Online Gift Shop

All proceeds will go toward the MBTA over the next five years.

Admit it, you'd kill for a pair of flip flops emblazoned with the MBTA map.

Or how about a set of Blue Line coasters? Or Transit Token necklace?

Now all this (and more!) can be yours.

In an effort to raise non-fare revenue, the MBTA opened its online gift shop this week, featuring more than 100 items ranging from hats and T-shirts to home goods and art. Some of the work was designed by local artists. All proceeds go to the MBTA.

(So that's what they did with all of those tokens...)

The MBTA officially opened its story on June 1 with a "ribbon cutting" at the Ward Maps store in Cambridge. The owners of Ward Maps, Steven and Brian Beaucher, have contracted with the MBTA to operate the online store at no cost to the MBTA.

Over the next five years, the T will receive royalty payments from all revenues raised, according to Lydia Rivera, spokeswoman for the T.

The online store can be found at http://www.mbtagifts.com/shop.php.
