I-93 South to Close Overnight June 4-5

MassDOT crews will be doing tunnel and bridge maintenance on Interstate 93 through Boston overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Late night travelers may want to avoid parts of I-93 this week, as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation will be doing maintenance work Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

The work will require complete lane closures of I-93 southbound through Boston from 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 through 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 5.

Traffic on I-93 southbound will be detoured off the highway at Route 38/Mystic Avenue onto surface streets, re-entering the interstate at the Albany Street on-ramp.

Traffic that is headed to I-90 westbound (the MassPike) will access the I-90 on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street.

“This closure gives maintenance crews access to the Lower Deck, Zakim Bridge and O’Neill Tunnel southbound,” a service alert from MassDOT states.

Work will include tunnel wall and sign washing, drain clearing and maintenance of electrical and communications systems.

In addition, motorists should plan ahead for a similar closure of I-93 northbound, which will occur from 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 through 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 19.
