Fifth Hubway Station Installed in the South End

Bike sharing dock located near Boston Center for the Arts and area restaurants.

All five of the South End’s bike sharing stations are now up and running, with the latest Hubway dock installed at the corner of Tremont and East Berkeley streets last week.

Additional stations are located on Tremont Street in front of the , along Mass Ave. at the Boston Medical Center, at the intersection of Washington and Rutland streets and at the . A sixth station is located just over the South End border on Washington Street near .

Before placing the stations, city and Hubway representatives met with the South End Landmark District Commission and heard feedback from residents on the pros and cons of certain locations. The fifth station was originally planned for the Boston Center for the Arts plaza, but was moved a few blocks away after that the area was already congested with valets and pedestrian traffic.

“There are hundreds of people here on a nightly basis,” said restaurateur Gordon Hamersley. “It just gives one concern.”

The station now sits at the corner of East Berkeley and Tremont streets, visible to patrons of the and area restaurants. It’s also conveniently located in front of , where Hubway users can purchase helmets and other gear.
