El Centro Goes for Outdoor Seating With Liquor Service

License Board will consider allowing liquor service at a 14-seat patio along Shawmut Street.

Al fresco dining fans may have a new spot to enjoy dinner and a glass of wine on Shawmut Street.

El Centro goes before the city Licensing Board Wednesday to change its liquor license. The Mexican restaurant wants to serve liquor outdoors at a 14-seat sidewalk patio. The seasonal patio space would be open 10 a.m.-10p.m. each day.

EL Centro opened on Shawmut Avenue in late May last year to positive reviews on South End Patch and Yelp. It holds a seven-day malt and wine with liquor license, which must be amended to allow the outdoor seating.

This is going to be so great, El Centro is one of the best and most respectable establishments in the neighborhood. I am so happy to hear they will have outdoor space and continue to enliven the streets of the South End!
